BoDan Beach Drive:
Scenic Drive North
of Phuket
A
beautiful beach and country drive just south of Thai
Muang.
Drive south from Thai Muang on the main highway (Route
4) about ten minutes, and just before the rural village
of Baan Bangkli, look for this sign:
Stay flexible with spellings - you will find Thasai,
Tasai, Boo Darn, Bodan, Bordan, Bo Darn and many
variations - transliteration from one language to
another is an art, not a science.
No
problem if you miss the sign above as two kilometers
later you will see this sign - the route is a loop so
you can go in way and come out the other:

Turn
right at either sign and you will take a drive through a
lovely rural area. After a few kilometers, you will
come to a junction to Baan Kapong (if you turned at the
Tah Sai sign (that drive is the Thai Muang Loop Drive -
check it out on the menu) - continue straight to Bo Dan
village to get to the Beach - and turn right when you
get to the T-junction a few kilometers later.
Follow that road a bit and it will turn into a dirt/sand
road and you will come to a small bridge right in front
of the beach. The road at that point is likely to trap
your vehicle so it is best to walk the last 100 meters
to the beach (see the photo at the top of the page).
Almost always, you will be the only person/people on
this beach.
It
is gorgeous! Take a picnic and a bottle of wine to
really enjoy it.
You
can't get lost as there are few roads in the area and no
major junctions off these roads. Take your time, drive
slow, and enjoy a slice of traditional Thai life.
Approaching the area from either access road is easy -
consider taking the Kapong route when you head back and
it will bring you the back way into Thai Muang. See the
Thai Muang Drive on the website for directions.
Tah
Sai Beach is to the north - probably easier to walk to
it as there is no easy road access.
