Golfing Paradise in Phuket and Phang
Nga
Two
excellent golf courses are in the area north of Phuket.
Both sit right on the Andaman Sea.
The
Royal Thai Navy provides an excellent course that is
open to the public at Tap Lamu - near the piers where
boats depart for the Similan Islands. Course details are
available at:
Tublamu Navy Golf Course - contact phone number: 076
443 288.
Another great course is located at Thai Muang - a
regional center about 20-25 minutes drive south of Khao
Lak. The course is currently closed for renovations, but
is expected to re-open with a marina, property
development around the course and a first class
professional-level course. Check on this course in time
for high season in late 2008. This will be an
exceptional resort when it re-opens.

Five excellent courses are on offer on Phuket
Loch
Palm Golf Club & Red Mountain Golf Course:
Loch Palm: The Most
Relaxing golf course in Phuket, Thailand Located in
Kathu District just 7 kms. from Phuket Town and Patong
Beach, about 15 minutes from Patong.
Nestling below a panoramic range of peaks, and sandwiched between the Katu Waterfalls and Katu Village
the layout surrounds the largest lake on any golf course
in Phuket, Crystal Lake, 48 acres in size, and its
smaller sister lake, which give golfers a refreshing
breeze off the water.
This is an 18 holes course par 72, 6,555 yards palm
tree-lined beauty, recently completed major re-designs
and multi-million dollar upgrades. The course is in
great shape. It is a very good layout and one that is
beginning to rival some of the best layouts on the
island as the refurbishment matures. You are required to
put your thinking cap on and keep perfect control of
your game on this tightly routed layout.
Red Mountain:
This brand new
18-hole course is Loch Palm’s sister course.
Winding its way
through a truly dramatic 1400 rai former tin mine site
in the heart of Phuket, Red Mountain is surely one of
Asia’s most exciting new courses. The course has been
cleverly routed to take advantage of a huge variety of
landforms and dizzying elevation changes. Scars left
from the tin mine era have been imaginatively
incorporated into the overall scheme, creating a unique
character at the same time as establishing an indelible
link with an important era in the Island’s past.
Designer Jon
Morrow, has created a highly strategic and challenging
6,900 yard lay out to complement the shorter and gentler
old Loch Palm Course. While the course is undoubtedly
challenging, numerous risk and reward options create a
fun playing environment, an exhilarating test of golf
and a breathtaking scenic tour around a course destined
to become a golfing landmark in the region.
Laguna Phuket Golf Club:
Voted Top Ten for
Best Golf Resort in Asia , Best Clubhouse in Asia and
Best Golf Courses in Thailand by readers of Asian Golf
Monthly magazine, Laguna Phuket Golf Club is an 18-hole,
par-71 resort course, designed by Max Wexler and David
Abell, which challenges golfing enthusiasts of all
abilities. Measuring 6,654 yards from the back tees
and 5,464 yards from the front tees, the course features
a wealth of scenic lagoons, coconut groves and
undulating fairways, set against the dramatic backdrop
of the surrounding mountains and Andaman Sea.
Meandering
through the labyrinth of lagoons, the course requires
golfers to play with great accuracy, and to select clubs
carefully. Water looms on 13 of the 18 holes and
threatens to swallow any shot veering too far to the
side. On several holes, adventurous long hitters will
certainly enjoy taking a rewarding gamble by cutting
corners, while on other holes, strategic iron play is a
must!
Laguna Phuket
Golf Club also offers a wonderful opportunity for you to
refine your game at its extensive practice facilities.
Features include a covered area for sun and rain
protection, a driving range, putting greens, practice
bunkers and chipping areas; so you can work on both your
short and long games. The Club also provides
professional golf instruction.
The
well-appointed clubhouse and pro shop offer an
impressive range of golfing accessories, as well as a
billiard table, three tennis courts and the Banyan Café.
In terms of
location, Laguna Phuket Golf Club is just 20 minutes'
from Phuket International Airport , and only 25 minutes
from Phuket Town . In fact, it is easily reached from
virtually all points on the island.

yards from the back tees, the golf course is fulfilled
with the best selected grass, Paspalum Sea Isle 1 for
fairways and Paspalum Sea Isle 2000 for greens. One
island two sharing greens, one hole two greens and beach
bunkers are outstandingly featured to challenge even the
most conservative golfers.
Those who say the least - often don't need to say much .
. . an EXCELLENT course.

Blue Canyon Country Club Phuket :
At the northern end
of Phuket, is recognized as being the most exclusive
golfing establishment in the region. It is surrounded by
freshwater lakes and has facilities to match any of the
world's leading golf resorts.
Host to the Johnnie
Walker Classic in 1998, this championship course
features many natural hazards, multiple tees, narrow
landing areas, rolling fairways and well guarded greens.
Signature hole number 13 the 'Canyon' and the 'Island'
par three 14th are memorable. At the 13th a huge drive
is needed to clear the 'Canyon' and at 14, a par three,
players hit from an elevated tee and must hit a perfect
tee shot in order to land on the island green. The huge
and opulent clubhouse affords magnificent view of the
golf course and has every facility.
